The licensed Van Dusen design, 675 to 815.

Braca XI Van Dusen ’92 is the latest addition to the kayak wing paddle category. In response to high demand and requests from our team riders, BRAČA-SPORT® has licensed the Van Dusen design. The Braca XI blade boasts a special twisted teardrop shape that enhances its ability to achieve a powerful catch and a clean exit, ensuring a smooth and unique movement through the water.

The Braca XI Van Dusen is finely tuned to deliver peak performance, offering efficient power across all cadences. It is our most widely utilized paddle in the USA and remains a favored choice among professional racers for Olympic Sprints, World Marathon Championships, and Surfski competitions.

Marathon blades are specially reinforced with Kevlar tips, while Down River blades feature metallic tips. The edges of both types of blades are highly impact-resistant, making them suitable for use in extreme rocky conditions.

Braca XI Shaft Options

Designed and used for many conditions and athletes’ sizes, these blades can be paired with any shaft We recommend stiffer shafts for larger blades but any combination is possible. All of these shafts are possible options for athletes depending on distance and conditions and athlete requirements. When you select a blade size and construction you will see shaft choices.

Braca XI is an excellent kayak marathon paddle!

  • For marathon, we recommend 19K shaft
  • Surfski blades are usually paired with 19K and 21K shafts but contact us for a different shaft option
  • 19K shafts are available with metal or a durable plastic connector ideal for saltwater
  • 21K is always a durable plastic locker and 21K shafts have a smaller diameter
  • 04K and 06K are most popular for sprint or those wanting stiffer performance

These are the Braca XI shaft options:

Braca XI Shaft Length

When you order your paddle you need to enter a Custom Length and select Hand Control.

Length: You can use any 5cm or 10cm length depending on the shaft.  See the image above for more info.

How to enter the custom paddle length:

  • For 02K to 17K, 18K enter a 5cm range (ex: 207 – 212 cm)
  • For the 19K or 21K enter a 10 cm range (ex: 207 – 217 cm)

All Braca paddles are available with a two-piece adjustable shaft that provides 5 cm or 10 cm of adjustability. This allows flexible adjustment of the overall paddle length and blade angle from 0° to 80° right or left in 5° increments. The system also allows you to disassemble the paddle into two parts for easy transportation.

Hand Control: Select Right or Left

Hand control determines which way to orient the locker, left-handed or right-handed.

Professional Kayak Sprint and Marathon Paddle

About the Braca XI Van Dusen '92, a new favorite for kayak competition and training

The design of this unique high twist, tear-drop paddle was the result of three years of development and testing. The paddle was first built in 1992 and sold by CEI as “The #8”. Due to the high demand and requests from team riders, BRAČA-SPORT®, the leading high-end paddle manufacturer for sprint canoe and kayak racing, added this special shaped blade to the product line by purchasing a license from Ted in 2014. The Braca XI is considered a “high twist” shape which facilitates a strong catch and clean exit. Many paddles on the market have emulated this shape, but if you have not tried one of Ted’s original paddles (#8) or the Braca XI, you really should. It does require a more precise entry at the catch than other paddles, but once dialed in provides top performance – efficient power at varied cadences, at EVERY cadence.Ted Van Dusen, Composite Engineering Inc, a leader in carbon racing products.
